Our
library system simply cannot live up to its mission without revitalizing and
expanding its collection of books and other resources. Permanent Endowment
Trust fund proceeds can be used to improve the book collections, addressing the
needs of children and youth, life long learners, the growing Spanish-speaking
population, and our workforce skills.
Enhancing Technological Resources
Free
access to computers and other electronic resources helps bridge the digital and
information divide. People who are most in need of these resources often have
the least access: children, seniors, and the underserved.
Endowment
Trust funds can be used to maintain, replace, and continually upgrade the
hardware and software needed to keep pace with innovations that drive the
digital age.
Providing Additional Services
Genealogy and FamilyHistoryCenter
In
the past, the Library System offered assistance in how to get started in
genealogical research and the resources available. This was one of the most
popular Library programs offered, but had to be eliminated due to budget
cutbacks. Proceeds from the Foundation’s Permanent Endowment Fund could be used
to restart this very valuable service.
Southern Arizona Consumer Health Information
Many
community members have requested assistance in understanding medical diagnoses
and terms used by medical professionals, as well as information gathered from
other sources. This program would provide a community resource to explain these
areas in understandable terms in a timely and responsive manner.
Enhancing Existing Services
Additional Teen Resource Centers in other library facilities
Several
libraries currently have Teen Resource Centers that provide a special area for
teens to study, read, and socialize when other locations are not available.
More of these areas are needed throughout the Library system.
Additional children’s programs
Many
children’s programs are threatened, have already been cut back, or have been
eliminated due to budget reductions. These include young children’s reading
programs and Homework Help programs aimed at older children. Proceeds from the
Foundation’s Endowment Trust can be used to help restart or enhance these
programs.
