The Circle of Book Clubs was established to bring authors, book club members and supporters together to raise money for the PimaCounty Public Library. Monies raised from activities and efforts of the Circle of Book Clubs contribute to an endowment for the Library administered through the PimaCounty Library Foundation.
BACKGROUND
Working on the assumption that members of book clubs would be eager to support their library, but would not necessarily be able to individually donate on a major scale, a volunteer committee of 6 was formed whose purpose was to craft and implement a grassroots fundraising plan. Since that initial meeting in 2004, the committee has expanded to 13 members, identified and registered more than 100 book clubs throughout PimaCounty and has hosted very successful author events.
AUTHOR EVENTS
Each of the literary events has featured a prominent author. Authors Bonnie Marson, Jennifer Carrell, Nancy Turner, Diana Gabaldon, J. A. Jance , Alan Weisman, Stella Pope Duarte, Laila Halaby, Robert Olen Butler, Barton Gellman, and Rober Shelton have been guests of the Circle of Book Clubs. Collectively these authors represent a marvelously diverse spectrum of literary genres. Not only have these literary events provided a close personal look at specific books but they have enabled readers to meet other book enthusiasts and share their passion for reading and book discussions. To date, proceeds from these literary events have totaled more than $20,000. Another popular feature of the Circle of Book Clubs is a compiled list of 100 recommended titles especially suited for book discussions, updated annually and offered to all member book clubs.
